EKG Specialist

An electrocardiogram (ECG or EKG) is a record of the electrical activity of the heart over a period of time. The instrument that makes the record is the ECG machine or Electrocardiograph. It works by attaching electrodes to the outer surface of the skin.

An electrocardiogram monitors the heart. Each beat of the heart is triggered by an electrical impulse, normally generated from special cells in the upper right chamber of the heart. An electrocardiogram records these electrical signals as they travel through the heart. Doctors can use an electrocardiogram to look for patterns among these heartbeats and rhythms to diagnose various heart conditions.

ELECTROCARDIOGRAM

ECG is used to measure the rate and regularity of heartbeats, the size and position of the chambers, the presence of any damage to the heart, and the effects of drugs or devices used to regulate the heart, such as an artificial pacemaker.

ELECTROCARDIOGRAMS ARE A SAFE, QUICK, AND PAINLESS TEST THAT PROVIDES THE ABILITY TO:

  • Review your heart rhythms
  • Check if the patient has poor blood flow to the heart
  • Diagnose if you are having or will have a heart attack
  • Review the information for any abnormalities
  • Discover any significant electrolyte abnormalities including high potassium or low and high calcium
Headaches and Migraines Treatment

A headache is the symptom of any pain or discomfort found in the face or head area and affects over 1 billion people worldwide. Talk to your healthcare provider about different treatment options when you can’t find relief from over-the-counter medications.

Types of Headaches

There are more than 200 types of headaches. They are broadly classified into two groups, primary and secondary. Ninety percent of headaches are primary, the most common being migraines, tension-type headaches, and cluster headaches.

Migraines

Migraines typically present with pulsing head pain, nausea, and photophobia (sensitivity to light), and phonophobia
(sensitivity to sound). Other characteristics could also include nausea, vomiting, and dizziness.

Tension-Type Headaches

Tension-type headaches usually present pressure on both sides of the head and typically not accompanied by other
symptoms. The pain usually radiates from the lower back of the head, the neck, eyes, and other muscle groups in the body.

Cluster Headaches

Less common than the previous two, cluster headaches are a disorder characterized by recurrent severe headaches on one side of the head, typically around the eyes. This is often
accompanied by eye watering, nasal congestion, and similarly to a migraine, photophobia and phonophobia can also be present.
